Parts of a PC:
- Processor (CPU)
- Main brain of your PC
- This is like a sports car that can handle singular tasks really fast
- Graphics Card (GPU)
- What turns computer’s code into visible frames
- Similar to CPU
- This is like a bus that can handle a ton of tasks at one time
- Also has dedicated RAM in it called VRAM
- Better graphical settings require more
- How much VRAM do I need?
- 8GB
- 10-12GB - Pushing it
- 16GB+ is best for future proofing
- Motherboard
- Nervous system of PC
- Routes power and data to other components
- Three Main Sizes:
- ATX
- Largest of three
- Cheaper due to less engineering
- mATX
- Smaller than ATX
- Best price to performance
- ITX
- Smallest components
- Higher price tag due to more engineering
- Memory (RAM)
- Holds data that your CPU can use nigh instantaneously
- Currently in a RAM shortage due to AI
- Two main types (Depends on CPU)
- DDR4
- Older generation of RAM
- Cheaper alternative to DDR5
- DDR5
- Storage
- Holds all the data that you use
- Power Supply (PSU)
- Supplies power top your PC
- DON’T CHEAP OUT ON ONE
- Case
- Puts your components in a pretty package
- Fans/Cooling
- Your computer will need to be cooled because the parts get pretty hot
- Two Main Types
- Air cooling
- Typically cheaper
- Can make more noise without tuning
- Water Cooling
- Better for less audible noise
- Can have screens on them for brownie points
- All-In-Ones (AIOs) are the easiest to try liquid cooling
- Can make custom loops (wouldn’t recommend for first timers)
